Potential assessment

The potential assessment is the core element of talent management. It is crucial for the systematic assignment of high-potentials to the corresponding development measures and support programs. Moreover, potential assessment is closely related to performance analysis and the review of potentials within the company. In contrast to performance analysis, potential assessment provides an indication of the future and anticipates performance in a new position. Managers are then able to apply their assessment to the next, meaningful development step. As it may happen, in spite of a poor potential statement, an employee's performance may be very high in his or her current position. Both approaches must therefore be considered independently.

In practice, different methods are employed for the implementation of the potential assessment.
